The Petit Palais is getting bigger!
315 million francs have been
allocated for renovating and enlarging the Petit Palais. Work should get
underway in 2001 and is due to last 20 months. The Petit Palais will be
baptised the Fine Arts Museum of the City of Paris (Musée des Beaux-Arts
de la Ville de Paris) at that time, and will contain between 6 and 8 thousand
sq. meters of exhibit space. The garden will also undergo important transformations,
restoring the original vegetation, and adding fountains. Furthermore, the
future Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris will be endowed
with a cafeteria, a bookstore, and a space for workshops.
In the meantime, other exhibits
will continue to take place in the Petit Palais, such as Baroque Brazil,
which starts in November 99 and goes until February 2000 or the mega-exhibit,
The China of Kingdoms and Empires: 25 years of Archeology which starts
in the fall of 2000.
